Lubrication

Lever backs require a small amount of lubrication in order to function properly. Most lever backs are sold pre-lubricated, but ultrasonic cleaning , steaming, age or daily wear and
tear will deplete this important lubrication. To keep lever backs in as new condition, a small amount of oil must be added and worked into the hinge.

Soldering

Most lever backs are sold preriveted. The rivet must be removed and the
hinge disassembled before any torch work is attempted. If you solder on a
preriveted lever back you will ruin the spring tension in the hinge. When
reassembling the lever back use new rivet wire and don’t forget to lubricate
the hinge with oil. For your convenience, Otto Frei sells a few styles of
unriveted lever backs.
